This soundtrack from the 1989 film contains commercial party music associated with the Caribbean. There is soca from Arrow and Seventeen Plus, reggae from Little Twitch and UB40, the New Orleans sound of the Neville Brothers, and special reggae songs produced specifically for the film. One of these, "(I'm) Hurting Inside," is performed on screen by Sheryl Lee Marley with Cedella Marley and Sharon Marley Prendergast. They also do a pop reggae spin on the Bob Dylan title song, and their presence provides some Caribbean royal family gravitas to the proceedings. The real standout track, though, is the Michael Rose re-visitation of the Black Uhuru song "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner." His performance of it with Earl "Chinna" Smith is briefly featured in the film, and Black Uhuru's die-hard fans will want to catch it. Yello provides a German synth tune that sounds Caribbean to round out the album, which faithfully represents the sonic flavor of the film. ~ John Gonsalves, Rovi
