Loosely related to the Farrelly Brothers' first hit movie, Dumb and Dumber: Get Down, Get Dumb collects some of rock's dippiest, dopiest moments, including Todd Rundgren's anti-work anthem "Bang the Drum All Day," Carl Douglas' "Kung Fu Fighting," and Apache Indian's "Boom Shack-A-Lak." The Red Hot Chili Peppers' "Yertle the Turtle," the Beat Farmers' "Happy Boy," the Jimmy Castor Bunch's "Bertha Butt Boogie, Pt. 1," and the Monkees' "Your Auntie Grizelda" are all deeply dumb, while Robyn Hitchcock the Egyptians' "Balloon Man" and Napoleon XIV's novelty classic "They're Coming to Take Me Away, Ha-Haaa!" aren't so much dumb as quirky and crazy, but they fit the album's silly, put-your-brain-on-hold vibe. Though listening to the entire album at once probably isn't advisable, Get Down, Get Dumb definitely delivers on its premise. ~ Heather Phares, Rovi
