Test your flying skills in 29 diverse aircraft in X-Plane 9. Billed by the publisher as the "most comprehensive and powerful flight simulator available for the personal computer," X-Plane 9 straps players into the cockpits of such wide-ranging aircraft as the Bell 206 Jet-Ranger helicopter, the Cessna 172 light plane, the V-22 Osprey, and even a space shuttle. In addition to the included aircraft, owners can download hundreds of other models from the Internet. Once players decide what to fly, they can take off and land from thousands of airports in the continental U.S.
For a greater challenge, digital pilots can try landing on aircraft carriers, frigates, oilrigs, and more. Variable weather is included, allowing players to fly in rain, snow, and through high winds, with the potential for aircraft to experience sudden failures in instruments, engines, landing gear, and various other systems. Also featured are two editors for creating custom planes and scenery. As an added bonus, players can download actual weather conditions from the Internet to simulate flying in real-world conditions across the country.
