Well,
WCW Mayhem: The Music certainly couldn't have arrived at a better time. As of November 1999, WCW pretty much ruled among a certain class of adolescent and blue-collar males, so it was time to assemble a soundtrack, with nothing but hardcore
hip-hop and
metal, both of the traditional and alt variety. Of course, some wrestling rants and songs were thrown into the equation, but it's the
hardcore rap and
metal that sell this, especially the cuts by
Slayer,
Metallica,
Limp Bizkit,
Big Pun,
Megadeth, and
ICP. If there are well-known songs here, such as
"Seek and Destroy" or
LB's cover of
"Faith," they're in slightly different forms, like live or remixed versions. But that's not a big deal, since anyone listening to this will want an aggressive, balls-to-the-wall experience. And that's pretty much what they'll get.
