Fans of
the D rejoice, the greatest band in the world has finally made their way to DVD courtesy of the folks at
Epic! A two-disc set that is certain to please both the casual and the die-hard fan, this release will no doubt win over a few converts as well. Presented in their original 1.33:1 full-frame aspect ratio, the image throughout is near flawless. From the professional production of
Tenacious D's
Brixton Academy performance to
HBO short films, every image presented here has been taken from the best possible source. While the live concert footage offers the tunes that have become standard to those who bought their eponymous CD debut, the
HBO episodes and extras on the second disc show that there was indeed much more material than many may have thought. The simulated 5.1 Surround Sound fills the room and places the viewer squarely in front of
JB and
KG as they rock you into oblivion. Since their brief run on
HBO, the six all-too-short episodes have reached near legendary status among fans -- and it's great to see them included in this package as well. While all these inclusions may be fine and good (read: expected) by casual fans of
Tenacious D, it's the second DVD in this set that will truly rock their socks off. In addition to a trio of short films produced for
HBO and four music videos, this disc also compiled the band's appearances on
Mad TV,
Crank Yankers, and
Late Night With Conan O' Brien -- a thankful inclusion for those whose well-worn VHS tapes have seen better days. If all of this wasn't already too much for viewers, the behind-the-scenes offerings of "Tenacious D in the Studio," "The Making of Wonderboy," and "Tenacious D on the Road" are sure to keep fans suitably rocked until the release of their long-awaited feature film.
