Johnny Legend is currently known for hosting a series of B-movie videocassettes for companies like Rhino and Something Weird, releasing crazed sci-fi themed rockabilly CDs and generally just being a Hollywood freak on the scene. However, he was also involved with a number of low-budget films in the 1970s and straight from his fevered brain comes
Teenage Cruisers, "the first X-rated rock and roll movie." A fast-moving, dirty-minded version of
American Graffiti is what emerges from this patchwork of lowbrow attempts at
Russ Meyer-styled visual gags, unrelated hard-core porno loops (featuring superstars
Serena and
John Holmes) and a great soundtrack of original rock and roll numbers (
Billy Zoom of the L.A. punk band
X provides guitar on several).
Legend himself stars as Mambo Remus, a Hollywood disc jockey who apparently broadcasts all day long, giving him the chance to comment on and clarify the action as it unfolds ... two nubile sex maniacs cruise the strip looking for boy action, a pent-up Army veteran is home and anxious for relief, a dangerous nymphomaniac prowls for victims after escaping from an insane asylum and high school boys visiting a whorehouse are treated to an ersatz "donkey show."
Teenage Cruisers is silly and good-natured fun, making it a treat for fans of B-movies, sex flicks and 1970s nostalgia.
