Start Dreaming! mixes the appeal of traditional sing-alongs with quirky, original songwriting. Most of the album's tracks, such as the catchy
"Music's a Language" and
"Swish!," an appropriately bouncy, slightly funky ode to basketball, borrow contemporary
pop styles, though songs like
"Roy G Biv" -- about a rainbow boy who lives in the sky -- feel like classic sing-alongs.
"Zibby the Zebra" and
"Kalien the Alien" add plenty of playful nonsense to
Start Dreaming!, and though the children singing on the choruses are occasionally intrusive, overall the album is an enjoyable collection of creative sing-alongs.
