Essentially a 33-track sampler of some of the gorgeous and extensive R&B sets that Bear Family Records has released over the years, Snatch and Grab It! works wonderfully as a standalone, as track after track bursts through with energy and passion, making this a self-contained dance party and history lesson all rolled into one. Among the delightful gems here are the Orioles' easy and poised version of "Baby Please Don't Go,"the Prisonaires' loose, backyard "That Chick's Too Young to Fry,"Rufus Thomas' Excello-sounding "Tiger Man,"Ray Sharpe's endlessly echoing "Oh My Baby's Gone," and maybe best of all, an explosive, driving and nearly out of control version by Allen Toussaint of "Tim Tam." The fun never lets up, and while Snatch and Grab It! might be a sampler, it delivers an awful lot of punch and points the way to even deeper, further delights from the amazing catalog of Bear Family Records. ~ Steve Leggett, All Music Guide
