A party of Latin music can be a party indeed, and the cuts assembled for this compilation would keep any party humming loudly, and the feet moving. It all begins on a pounding note with
"La Rumba Se Pone Buena," which explodes out of the box and keeps things shaking with
los de Abajo, then
the Pimps of Joytime bring up an old-school,
Santana-like groove on
"Bonita," while
"Use Me" offers a rather different but alluring, Latin/funk/jazz take on the
Bill Withers soul classic. What the album illustrates is the rich variety of Latin music, where the rhythms percolate for the danceflloor, and the melodies are lush. Even a remix of
Sidestepper's
"Mas Papaya" doesn't deconstruct as much as reimagine, while
"Puerto Rico Pa Gozar" takes a melody and brings it into full and faster life. All in all, a great party record, and a fabulous add for Latin music.
