A single mother whose life has been beset by personal tragedy struggles to realize her dreams as an R&B singer in director Kirsten Person Ramey's affecting tale of personal triumph. As a child Mary and her sister were separated by social services after being abandoned by their drug-addicted mother. Years later, life would hand the long-suffering Mary yet another setback in the form of a brutal divorce from her unfaithful husband Gary - whose public role as the church deacon masked deep personal conflict. Though Mary's luck later takes a turn for the better after a meeting with successful Atlanta music producer AC Wells sends her career as a singer into overdrive, a volatile relationship with a high profile rapper on AC's label not only results in problems at home, but an expensive drug habit as well. After being admitted into a rehabilitation program and finally hitting rock bottom, Mary vows to make a positive change for both herself and her children by taking back her career, reclaiming her life, and letting nothing or no one stand in the way of her and true success in life.
