Since MTV's spinoff compilations like Amp had done so well, the network decided to release MTV Jams, a collection of urban R&B and contemporary soul singles that were in regular rotation on the program. Unfortunately, the disc isn't as consistently engaging as other entries in MTV's series, but that's only because a few so-so tracks are thrown in the mix. Toss those cuts out with a CD programmer, and you're left with a good, but not great, collection of late-'90s urban R&B and pop-oriented hip-hop, highlighted by Montell Jordan's "Let's Ride,"Mary J. Blige's "Everything,"SWV's "Can We,"Dru Hill's "In My Bed (remix),"Missy Elliott's "The Rain" and Busta Rhymes' "Put Your Hands Where My Eyes Can See." It's a reasonably entertaining collection, but you can't help feeling that it could have been better.
