Many people's only introduction to Latin music has been the Santana albums Abraxas and Supernatural, along with Lou Bega's song "Mambo No. 5." Most do not realize that many of their ideas have been culled from their influences. This compilation takes you back to some of the original Latin recording artists who drew the blueprint for the music. Drummer Tito Puente shows off his prowess on the timbales as he flails across the original version of "Oye Como Ya" (later recorded by Santana for his Abraxas album). The original version of "Mambo No. 5" also appears by way of Perez Prado. For anyone who wants a taste of what Latin music is really about, this is a must. ~Stephen Howell, All Music Guide
