Guitarist
Kazuyuki Kishino has played for
A.N.P. and
Zeni Geva in the past, but as
K.K. Null he takes his
avant electro sound into uncharted territory. The material on this two-track disc is actually drawn from three concerts: the first track (titled
"Kosmista Noisea I") is a composite created by combining two separate live recordings simultaneously, one in the left channel and the other in the right. The result is sonically fascinating -- glitchy and sometimes brittle, but with strange
science fiction and
industrial threads weaving through the sound as well. It ends on a distinctly skronky, noisy note. The second track, which is about twice as long, begins in an almost lyrical vein before dissolving into the kind of clangor that could have been created by guitar or almost any other instrument with an
electronic interface. Then things get impressionistic and spare, and the sounds evoke nothing so much as robotic birds in an
electronic jungle. Following an extended foray into some kind of
electro dungeon, the track ends with a long string of abrasive, high-pitched variations on the theme of mechanical breakdown. Like most
noise music, it pretty much defies critical analysis -- it's the kind of thing you're sure to enjoy if you enjoy this kind of thing.
