Mike Mignola's demonic antihero makes his
PSP debut in this third-person brawler set within atmospheric locales inspired by the Dark Horse comic book series and 2004 film directed by
Guillermo del Toro.
Hellboy can use his brute strength and "right hand of doom" to pummel, bludgeon, and crush the life out of demons, Nazi loyalists, and other supernatural creatures, or he can break apart structures, furniture, and other nearby objects to use as weapons. A grappling system not unlike those found in
wrestling games lets players grab, lift, throw, swing, and slam enemies to set up combination attacks and other interesting combat options. While the content between the handheld and console versions of
Hellboy is similar, the
PSP version features cartoon-style visuals and smaller levels to better accommodate gamers on the go.
