Time-Life's Have a Fun Christmas collects some of the most playful Christmas songs of the '50s through the '80s, including Brenda Lee's "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree,"Burl Ives' "A Holly Jolly Christmas," and Bobby Helms' "Jingle Bell Rock." Based on these songs and Chuck Berry's "Run Rudolph Run,"the Chipmunks' "The Chipmunk Song (Christmas Don't Be Late)," and Gene Autry's "Here Comes Santa Claus (Down Santa Claus Lane)," the late '40s through the early '60s were a golden age for Christmaspop. However, the album does feature some more contemporary holiday hits, including the Jackson 5's "I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus,"Elmo & Patsy's "Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer," and Bob & Doug McKenzie's "Twelve Days of Christmas." Unlike many holidaynovelty/pop collections, Have a Fun Christmas is only occasionally annoying and actually does provide quite a bit of seasonal spirit.
