Faire Celts: A Woman's Voice compiles an assortment of Celtic tunes both traditional and contemporary, performed by some of the genre's top female vocalists as of 2000. Many of the tracks are more pretty than powerful, linked by similarities in understated approach and polished production. Certain songs, however, stand out due to their willingness to buck the norm, including "Thoir Dhohm do Lamb/Ruidhleadh Na Coilich Dhubha" by Sandra Mackay, or by virtue of sheer talent and experience, like offerings from Capercaillie's Karen Matheson and Altan's Mairéad Ní Mhaonaigh.
