A two-disc set masterminded by the premier website for the jungle crowd, Drum & Bass Arena (http://www.breakbeat.co.uk) is an excellent release for fans, comprising one disc of contemporary anthems mixed by the master Andy C., the second a set of unreleased tracks from several of the best jungle producers around. After a few years in the doldrums, drum'n'bass producers made some great post-millennial strides, and though the names here -- Ram Trilogy, the former Bad Company, Digital, Shimon, Ant Miles, Ed Rush & Optical -- will be very familiar to anyone into the dark side of late-'90s jungle, the tracks are much rangier than the norm. Highlights on the first disc come from Digital's dark step "Gateman," the supersonic "Spaced Invader" by Hatiras & Majik, a Marcus Intalex remix of the housey "Just a Vision" by Solid State, and Dillinja's red-lining "All Aboard." The second disc makes less of an impact, though Tee Bee's "Two Faced" and a rare track from Alex Reece ("Sex Jive") are welcome additions.
