Billboard Pop Memories: 1940-1944 is a fine retrospective of the era in question -- although it contains only ten tracks, each is a gem, and for baby-boomers onward it's a solid introduction to the music of the war years. Highlights include such perennials as Glenn Miller's "In the Mood,"Bing Crosby's "Swinging on a Star,"Artie Shaw's "Stardust" and the Mills Brothers' "Paper Doll." ~ Raymond McKinney, All Music Guide
