DJ Russ Jones,
Beginner's Guide to World Lounge, the first in the series, is a three-disc set (divided into "Lounge Bar," "Lounge Club," and "Lounge Chill") that explores the worldwide
electronica music scene. Most of the artists (whose country affiliations are helpfully listed on the back cover) hail from
Latin America, often with U.K. connections, though there are also some from Africa, Asia, and even Israel (
Oi Va Voi).
Nascente, the label that put out this release as well as the countless others in the greater
Beginner's Guide series, has always done a pretty decent job of getting some of the best music -- even if not the most well-known (though the two do, and can, coincide) -- for its compilations, and this collection is no exception. From sultry
Latin rhythms to more mechanized
electronic beats,
Beginner's Guide to World Lounge stays focused and warm: enough to keep the energy going at late-night clubs while still being relaxing and musical enough to please a listener more content to sit and talk.
